Les Buddleias
1.
Les Buddléias is situated in the peaceful hamlet of Le Bost-Vieux, 3
miles from the old English bastide
The historic town of
The Atlantic coast with its wonderful surfing and the highest sand

The
House
We have endeavoured to make the house a home from
home for our guests; indeed it is a home, our home where we live outside of the
renting season. Consequently, the house is tastefully furnished to provide all
the facilities and comfort you need for a relaxing holiday. It is lavishly
appointed with matching crockery, cutlery and glassware right down to the
provision of a left-handed peeler!
There are three bedrooms, one with
king-size bed, one with double bed, and one with two single beds. On arrival,
you will find all the beds made (with English pillows!) as we provide all linen.
If you are staying for 2 or more weeks, the beds will be changed every
week. We also have 2 cots for very
young guests. All the bedrooms are furnished and decorated to a high
standard.
King-size bedroom
Twin bedroom
There are two sitting rooms, the larger of which provides a
comfortable, and now air-conditioned retreat where you can relax on the settee
and armchairs and watch satellite TV, a DVD , or listen to some music on the
CD/radio/cassette player. We have now installed Digital TV, which gives you
BBC1, BBC2, ITV(
We also have a selection of films on DVD for you to watch. There are also hundreds of books to suit all tastes as well as a number of board games, jigsaws etc.
Lounge
The smaller sitting room has three easy chairs and
provides a quiet space for those who want to escape the telly etc. The room
opens into the kitchen/dining room on one side, the main living room on the
other, and out to the parking lawn at the front of the house
The
kitchen/dining room is bright and spacious, and now air-conditioned, and
provides seating for eight around the large farmhouse dining-table. The room
looks out onto the garden which is accessed through the French windows. The
fitted kitchen is well-equipped with dishwasher, gas cooker and oven,
fridge-freezer, microwave, toaster, electric cafétière, and electric kettle. As
mentioned above, the crockery, cutlery etc. is of high quality and is provided
in quantity. We also provide teapots, coffeepots and all tea-towels, dishcloths
and oven gloves.
Your kitchen and dining room
We also provide plastic ware for use by the pool or for taking
on a picnic. There is also a large cool-box with freezer blocks for
picnics..
You will find a hi-fi system in the dining area with CD and
cassette player.
.
At the far end of the kitchen there is a door which leads
into a small corridor/cloakroom with doors to the spacious bathroom with bath,
shower, wash hand-basin and WC and to the shower room, with its newly installed
multi-jet shower also with wash hand-basin and WC. There is ample (very!)
hot water.
The washing machine is situated in the "barn" together with
extra freezer space should you need it.
There are 2 adult sports bikes
and 2 mountain bikes for your use.
Our self-contained accommodation is at the rear of the
house and is screened to ensure your privacy. We are of course available during
your stay to offer advice and guidance and to sort out any problems which might
arise. Richard speaks fluent French if you need it.
Young
Guests
We particularly welcome young guests of all ages.
We have a buggy, a high-chair, toilet seat, step-up, baby bath etc. Childrens'
books and games are also provided. The property and the pool are securely
enclosed to prevent inadvertent straying, and additional security is provided by
the pool alarm.
The Pool and
Gardens.
The small lawn at the front of the house is
actually for parking your car(s) and is open to the country lane on which the
house is situated. The front door to the house leads into the house from here.
The main garden area is gated and fenced for your security and privacy; the
garden lawn is partly shaded by apricot, apple and plum trees and is furnished
with a large, upholstered swinging couch, chairs and bench table. There is also
a gas barbeque with tools.
Your garden
Walking past the tamarisk tree and the herb garden (help
yourself) you will find another gate which leads to the paved area around the 8
x 4 metre pool, which is for your exclusive use. There are loungers, garden table
and chairs, and a solar-heated shower for pre- and après- swim douches. (Please,
no oil-based sun-creams in the pool as they clog up the filter and also
encourage bacterial growth in the water). You can lunch under the parasol, or
gaze upon the wonderful panoramic views over the surrounding vineyards, woodland
and fields, with the hilltop
The pool is graduated from 1 metre to 1m80 deep, with a 1 metre ledge all the way round, and is securely fenced and gated. There is both a staircase and ladder for getting in and out of the pool, which has a very powerful jet for hydro-massage (and fun). Floats and pool toys are provided. The pool is cleaned and the garden maintained and watered early every morning by ourselves.

Food and
Wine
There
are several restaurants nearby offering anything from pizzas to gourmet meals,
all at a fraction of what you would pay in the
While St.Emilion is nearby, we have conducted our
own researches into the local Bergerac wines (hic) and can recommend some
excellent wines to be had in the immediate locality. Richard will be happy to
take you to local vignobles who are more than happy to give you tastings and
even show you round their chais.
There are a number of supermarkets in
the local market towns, but Villefranche itself has a general store,
boulangerie, post office, as well as two bars, one of which sells newspapers.
This bar and the Hotel de Commerce next door also have restaurants. There are
public phones (all phonecard) in the village square. In Montpeyroux (less
than half a mile away), there is a post-office and a coin-operated public phone,
and now a Spanish restaurant with a general store.
Wildlife
We see on average 75
different species of bird from our garden each year, including short-toed
eagles, golden orioles and hoopoes. We have not got around to counting the
butterflies, but they are numerous. Add the various mammals, amphibians and
reptiles, and the diversity is astounding. The wild flowers on the road verges
(no herbicides here) are abundant: orchids, cowslips etc.
One of our summer visitors - hoopoe
The atmosphere is one of peace and
tranquillity, of space and timelessness. You should feel at home as soon as you
get here: after all, you will be living in our home where we live when you are
not here! We cannot guarantee wall-to-wall sunshine, but we can guarantee a warm
welcome and everything you need to make the perfect
holiday.
Linen
We provide all linen,
bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and poolside. You do not need to bring any towels,
cloths etc. More room in the car for all that wine!
Pets
Unfortunately, for the comfort of all guests we do not accommodate dogs at Les Buddleias.
